Hello, I’m Maria and I’m listening to a meadow in the West of Ireland and writing about the wisdom gained in the process.
I’ll also be writing short chants, lullabies and soothing songs along the way. Leave comments with your own reactions and wisdom.
Seeing an acre of yellow flowers has to be good for the soul. Who knows how many of these flowers are here but I would guess it’s in the 10s of thousands. I lay down in the midst of these flowers the other day and let the feeling of pure joy wash over me.

When we moved here 8 years ago I don’t remember seeing any, but bit by bit, year by year they have spread. Now the entire meadow is a sea of yellow and I still don’t know what they are called! I don’t have the patience to really sit and analyse them to be honest. I am spending my energy on enjoying them instead.
Also, within the meadow are many species of grasses and for some reason I am relishing getting to know the intricate details of them all. I have not learned them all yet but they include yorkshire fog, rye grass, bromes, dogs tail (?), sweet vernal grass, cock’s foot and more. I will hopefully do a post just on grasses soon.
Below you can see two rooks chasing off some class of raptor. I have never seen a raptor who has not been chased off by rooks, swallows, starlings or meadow pipits. Often the various bird species cooperate at the same time to fend off the bird of prey. Some how I feel bad for the raptor but I suppose they find a niche somewhere.
Brambles at the edge of the meadow.
Below - cock’s foot grass in flower.
This is just a quick update on the meadow. I will be uploading Episode 2 of my podcast soon and I will also be sending out information about our first Zoom gathering for paid subscribers. I can’t wait for this.
